A Review of Dos Artes Reserva Especial Añejo
Dos Artes Reserva Especial Añejo is created at the Tres Mujeres distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. Founded in 1996, Tres Mujeres bakes agave hearts in masonry ovens using artisan techniques.
To create this special, 100% agave tequila, the distillery rests blanco tequila in French and American oak barrels for five years—with violin and symphonic music playing in the background, according to the distillery’s website. When the tequila has aged for the required time, it is bottled in an 80/20 mix, with the spirits aged in the French barrels taking the 80% spot. The spirit is presented in an elegant, handcrafted bottle that itself takes three days to make. The ceramic bottle is cast, hand-painted, and baked into a work of art that will grace any liquor shelf or cabinet. Each design is different, so you’ll never buy the same Dos Artes tequila bottle twice.
Don’t let the higher price point disappoint you. The bottle is bigger, and you’ll still receive a full liter of tequila.
The elegance of this tequila begins with the color, a lovely light golden tone. On the nose, it offers aromas of fragrant vanilla, sweet caramel, a hint of smokey spiciness, and a whisper of pepper and oak. On the palate, the vanilla and caramel flavors dominate, with some reviewers describing flavors of butterscotch or cinnamon. The agave comes through nicely.
Some reviews of Dos Artes tequila state that it’s too sweet and resembles a dessert wine. But enthusiasts revel in the bold flavors and incredible smoothness of this fine liquor.
The finish surprises you with a dryer oak replacing the sweetness. Reports are consistent in stating the complete absence of burn.
Dos Artes Reserva Especial Añejo is a hard-to-find tequila that sells out quickly when available. Provide VS Liquor with your e-mail address, and we’ll alert you when it’s back in stock.
